Niagara's only lakefront winery, Konzelmann is situated on the beaches of Lake Ontario. The winery was established in the little German town of Uhlbach at the turn of the nineteenth century. Friederich Konzelmann, a former restaurateur, quit the food industry to explore winemaking. In 1893, Friederich formally released his first vintage to the public, buoyed by his previous success in producing house wines for his restaurants. Eventually, he would create 200,000 liters of fine wine each year from an assortment of Germany's renowned aromatic grape varieties.
